Oh Darling, Tangerine, the Weather Machine

ANDREW STEINBEISER
9 pm, Saturday July 19 | $10.
Secret Society Ballroom
116 NE Russell St.

[SHINY HAPPY POP] Almost any write-up you read about Oh Darling describes the Portland band with a few choice synonyms: “Cute,” “Adorable” and “Cheerios in chocolate milk.” It’s like reading reviews for the Frozen soundtrack. Good thing the band basks in its reputation for sugarcoated indie pop. When it comes to Beauty in Commotion, Oh Darling’s latest exercise in cheeriness, describing it as “upbeat” would be an understatement. Vocalist Jasmine Ash's soft, enchanting swoons are reminiscent of Chvrches' Lauren Mayberry, just five octaves higher. If things don’t work out for Oh Darling, they could have a second career recording lullabies.
