[FUNK] “It’s all right if you want to dance,” declares Eldridge Gravy on the opener to the group’s third studio album, last year’s Gravy’s in Your Area. Gravy and his 12-person backing group, the Court Supreme, practice what they preach. Throughout the album, the group recalls the likes of James Brown and Sly and the Family Stone, with songs that scissor infectiously in and out of uplifting orchestral swirls and grounding electric bass and percussion. Punctuating songs with jabs of bright horns and grooved-out fluctuations of keys over a sturdy foundation of smooth, soulful backing vocals, the Seattle-based group makes it a challenge to not dance.
