[ALWAYS A SURPRISE] The band now known as Water Tower has existed in many forms since its bluegrass days. Originally called the Water Tower Bucket Boys, a quartet that played old-time bluegrass with punk roots—including a killer cover of the Misfits' “Skulls”—the new material and three-person lineup focuses more on the here and now, swapping twang and old folk covers for a more electric sound. Bye bye banjo, hello electric bass. Where will the new Water Tower album take us? Who knows? Either way, whatever the incarnation, Water Tower still promises a variety of influences and catchy mandolin hooks.
