DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:

[NEW SOUNDS] Portland's Talkative is fluent in several musical languages. Across the three albums it's already released since coming together in 2011, the band, which has its roots in Eugene, dips into multiple soundscapes, ranging from psychedelic noise eruptions to freak-folk hymnals, hinting at a strong Animal Collective influence while still maintaining its own identity. Meanwhile, Salem's Hustle and Drone is the blissfully buzzy project of ex-Portugal. The Man keyboardist Ryan Neighbors who, along with Kirk Ohnstad, makes beat-heavy keyboard jams ensconced in a floaty haze and anchored by strong rhythms. Together, the groups represent two of the more intriguing acts in the new Portland underground. Keep eyes and ears on both.
