[SWING LOW] Prior to 1997—the year swing, er, re-broke—Cherry Poppin’ Daddies had spent most of the past decade serving as beloved genre-sampling linchpins of an all-inclusive Eugene scene and as regular support for the grimiest Puddletown punk acts. Any homegrown pride felt over their faintly bizarre mainstream coronation, however, quickly dissolved through the post-nostalgic swoon of big-band ubiquity. Once the Daddies and their ilk became too popular too quickly among the very worst sort of yuppie trend hoppers, few shed tears when the consumerist engines abandoned zoot suits and jitterbugging contests for greener (or Whiter Striped) pastures. Continuing to release albums and returning to venues more befitting a still-rabid niche appeal, frontman Steve Perry and his troupe appear destined to go down swinging.&nbsp;<p></p>
