[PUNK ROCK] I was just lamenting about what a regressive genre punk rock has become. Once upon a time, punk was an outlet for new ideas and expression. Of course, we can blame the commodification of punk fashion and culture through mall stores and Warped Tours. But the responsibility for expanding the art form has always been in the underground and on the shoulders of youth. Tonight’s compact lineup at Bunk Bar might not be breaking any molds, but it is an excellent example of two acts that bring purity and class to modern punk music. White Lung hails from British Columbia and boasts a brash West Coast sound that weds muscular riffs with feedback and crowd sweat. Portland’s Arctic Flowers, meanwhile, draws influence from the British post-punk scene.
