July 1, 2015 marked the legalization of recreational marijuana in Oregon. Now, everyone can legally grow up to four marijuana plants. Last year, WW had an office grow-off competition. But, this year, we are just trying to get the best yield we can out of our green girls. The five strains growing at Willamette Week World HQ this year are a Texada Timewarp, BC Pinewarp, The Purps and The Big.
You can find the previous week of our office grow here.
It's been six weeks since we've last updated you on the status of our beloved roof pot plants. Sorry about that!
We thought it was important to update you now for two reasons.
- To assure you that they did not die. (I know you were worried.) They’re actually looking great, especially for being handled by someone who currently has a hip succulent that’s nearly dead.
- Harvest is coming! We will harvest the plants on October 1, so we have to get you re-invested in the journey.
Here's what the girls looked like six weeks ago:
And here's what they look like now:
The secret to this success? Running a hose up to the roof and giving each plant two-and-a-half to five gallons each day. We leave 'em unwatered over the weekend, but that hasn't seemed to negatively affect the growth.
A good thing about these pots is you're able to easily tell if you're giving the plants sufficient water. The heavier the plant is, the more water is being stored inside. Sounds pretty obvious, but again, my succulent is nearly dead.
You'll notice some dead marijuana leaves on the ground surrounding the pots. These are casualties from trimming, which I do every watering session to make sure it doesn't get too dense in there.
We must be doing something right, because the plants have started growing beautiful sticky flowers.
Even the plant I repotted six weeks ago has started flowering, although I think it's maxed out how large it will get.
With life, as we know, comes death. Unfortunately, there's been another cannabis casualty. Even after being repotted, this little guy just wouldn't grow.
Tune in next week to see what will happen when our new intern takes over!
