If the 2016 election has taught us anything, it's that birds are decent judges of human character.
Arguably, the greatest moment of Bernie Sanders campaign was when a finch landed on the upstart's podium as he was discussion the millionaires and billionaires and bankers and stuff.
The Bernie Bird is not the only Oregon-based bird with strong political opinions. Take Diamond, an umbrella cockatoo under the care of Cindy Proudfoot of Salem. As you can see in this video, Diamond the Cockatoo reacts badly to threatening orange creatures.
"She does not like Trump," says Proudfoot. "Most of the time when he's doing his little pretend news conferences she starts yelling. She doesn't like him."
Diamond is a rescue, and is probably about 15 years old. Her species lives upwards of 80 years, so she will be will have to survive for many years in world where cockatoos and their chicks are deported as the species is native to Indonesia, the most populous Muslim nation on earth.
Diamond is Proudfoot's first umbrella cockatoo, but she rescues other birds.
"It's kind of like living with 3 and 5 year olds who have a pair of pliers and a blow-horn," she says.
Diamond also disliked Cruz, Prodfoot says, though not to the same extent. She is largely indifferent to Bernie, but seems enthusiastic about Hillary.
"She loves Hillary," Proudfoot says. "She'd probably eat that Bernie bird."
