Geez, is it already PDX Pop Now time again already? It feels like just yesterday when we were all huddled underneath the Hawthorne Bridge for a weekend of bands, Rigsketball and flash downpours.
I still believe the free, all-ages, all-local festival is one of the best traditions Portland has to offer—an annual reminder that no matter how the city changes, it still produces a remarkable amount of great new music every year. Although it no longer reaches for big-name headliners (it doesn't have to, really), there are highlights up and down the bill. Yes, you may already know about Summer Cannibals, Mic Capes, Cat Hoch, 1939 Ensemble and Eyelids, but the acts you should be checking are the ones you've never heard of before. My quick picks among the lesser-knowns are Maze Koroma, Blowout, Grape God and the Lavender Flu, but even I have my own research to do.
PDX Pop Now is July 22-24 at AudioCinema in the Industrial Southeast. The full lineup is below, after the announcement video. See you there!
