Portland progressive talk-radio host Carl Wolfson declared last week he's ending his morning show on XRAY.FM, citing the "vitriol" of supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders in the Democratic presidential primary race against Hillary Clinton.
Today, Wolfson says, the anti-Clinton attacks escalated into vandalism.
This morning, Wolfson posted a photo on Facebook of what he says is feces smeared across the back window of his car.
It reads: "Fuck Hillary."
Wolfson posted the photo around 11 am today.
"This is having to put up with shit," he wrote on Facebook. "Literally."
Wolfson tells WW the vandalism occurred outside of the XRAY.FM studio in North Portland.
"I was inside interviewing Jules Bailey, Brad Avakian and Regna Merritt (Physicians for Social Responsibility) and some idiot was outside doing this," he says via email.
Wolfson says he doesn't know who smeared his car, or if they even knew it was his vehicle. But he says he has no bumper stickers that would have otherwise alerted passersby to his political views.
"Frankly, I'm not interested in filing a police report," Wolfson says. "I just want to do my last 12 shows and step out of the public and political arena for a while."
Wolfson announced Jan. 20 that he's ending his talk show, Carl in the Morning. He cited his health, the financial expense of running the program, and how "nasty" supporters of Sanders have become.
"This incident just reinforces my desire to detach and decompress," Wolfson tells WW. "People should respect my desire to do so."
