Beer Guide 2014: Let's Brew

Let's Brew

8235 SE Stark St. letsbrew.net. 10 am-6 pm Monday-Friday, 9:30 am-5 pm Saturday.

With unsatisfying jobs and years of homebrew experience, Kim and Brian Erceg opened this supply store 18 years ago. They've been happily selling supplies and teaching brewing classes since. You come for supplies or to brew in the back room, but there are also six beers on taps for free sampling. The brewing kitchen is open on Monday through Saturday (with classes Saturday) but you'll want to call ahead to reserve a time. The price to use the kitchen is $40, which includes a helping hand and use of their fermentation room. After you pick a recipe from their book you'll need to throw down more money for the ingredients—and you'll understand why imperial-strength beers cost so much more. SAVANNAH WASSERMAN.

DRINK THIS: If you're an IPA lover, Brian has a killer recipe. It's nice and hoppy with a citrusy kick.
