[BEER HALL] Best new spot for a large group meal? For my money, it's Stammtisch. The new German tavern from the proprietors of North Mississippi Avenue's Prost is fine for date night, but the experience feels so much more full when you're crammed into this clubby bierhaus drinking an imported German hefeweizen emblazoned with the logo of a brewhouse founded a half-century before Columbus set sail. It's also the right context for currywurst ($6), a pork-veal sausage, grilled and sliced, with a few extra crispy french fries and crazy rich curry ketchup, served in a paper boat. Couples would do better with the forelle ($15), a flaky whole trout braised in Riesling and butter and served with seasonal veggies that pairs very well with kartoffelpuffer ($5), two golden, cake-shaped hash brown patties served with a big pool of sweet, thick and buttery applesauce. To drink with that, you'll want a crisp, mild lager like Bitburger or Veltins—both $9.50 for a liter, about $20 for a two-liter boot. The two-liter boot, it's possibly worth noting, is intended to be shared. MARTIN CIZMAR.
Avoid anything even vaguely American, like the burger or mac 'n' cheese.
