Bar Guide 2015: The Abbey Bar

THE ABBEY BAR

716 NW 21st Ave., 222-1593, theabbeybar.com. 3-11 pm Monday, 2-11 pm Tuesday-Wednesday, 2 pm-midnight Thursday-Friday, noon-midnight Saturday, noon-11 pm Sunday.

This loyally Belgian beer bar has a wonderful little sidewalk patio, three refrigerated cases storing hundreds of bottles at the appropriate temperature (different for each case!) for immediate drinking, six taps and a bewildering variety of glassware. This is a place for Belgophile beer geeks, but the real geekery doesn't happen in the taps but in the back fridges, including the little-seen Bière de Champagne—beers that are made essentially like Champagne, including a chocolaty Malheur that'll set you back $36 a bottle—and an extraordinary variety of Belgian IPAs (which ain't the American style) and Belgian strong dark ales.

Entertainment: Timbers games, just like everywhere else on 21st Avenue.
