Bar Guide 2015: The Alibi

4024 N Interstate Ave., 287-5335, alibiportland.com. 11 am-2 am daily.

With fake bamboo décor and piña coladas that will make your dentist wealthy, the Alibi appears to have a tiki theme, but don't let that fool you. The real theme is unity: You'd have a hard time finding a more mixed crowd in Portland. At the public park-style tables outside lurks a gaggle of jean-jacketed punx; at the door, three 30-somethings who clearly pregamed at their nice-ass condo down the street; and zoning out in front of the video poker machine, old-timers who have probably been there since Reagan busted their union. It all comes together in the bar's ample karaoke backroom, however, where the whole gang hits the "heeeieee" in "Billy Jean" as one pissed and pluralistic mess, and a white dude with dreads ends his version of "Welcome to Jam Rock" with "Southeast…Southwest…Gresham…Beaverton…where you at?" Beaverton? I'm here at the Alibi, and there's nowhere else I'd rather be.

Happy hour: 3-7 pm daily. $3 wells, $2 PBR, $5 mai tais.

Entertainment: Video poker, karaoke nightly after 9 pm.
