Bar Guide 2015: The Bye and Bye

1011 NE Alberta St., 281-0537, thebyeandbye.com, 4 pm-2 am Monday-Thursday, 2 pm-2 am Friday, noon-2 am Saturday-Sunday.

Through a long, rainy Northwest winter, nearly any drinking establishment will suffice. But come summertime, life seems better and our standards rise in turn. Were there to be a vote for the official bar of Portland summer, the Bye and Bye would be the Obama of 2008—filling us with hope for better days ahead. Its westerly facing façade and sprawling front patio beckon day drinkers to linger into warm evenings. Inside, under the approving gaze of Evel Knievel peering majestically from his painted portrait, beautiful hipster bartenders serve up beautiful hipster cocktails and vegan meatball subs. The bar's titular drink—served in a quart Mason jar with peach vodka, peach bourbon, lemon, cranberry and soda—shall be our official summertime beverage. We have tasted the future, and it is bright.

Happy hour: 4-7 pm daily.  $1 off entrees, select drafts, house wine and well cocktails.

Entertainment: Day drinking dissolving into glorious sunsets.
