Bar Guide 2015: Florida Room

435 N Killingsworth St., 287-5658. 3 pm-2 am daily.

Florida Room might sound like a tiki joint where over-tanned retirees troll for ass in Phoenix, but in actuality it's a direct middle finger to anything remotely resembling a theme—unless the theme is "bar." Named for the perpetually nicotine-choked front patio (old people call enclosed sun rooms "Florida rooms," because old people love Florida), the joint's got two big rooms to chill in with a beer from a surprisingly well-curated list or a solid bloody ($5.50-$8.50) while chewing on fried-avocado tacos or pulled-pork sliders ($4 during happy hour) or playing Walking Dead pinball. Snarky road sign aside, the place mostly relies on its patrons for personality. Luckily, this place is a magnet for friendly weirdos of all walks of life. Just be sure to bring extra smokes. You're going to be on that patio longer than you think.

Happy hour: 3-7 pm daily. Fifty cents off drafts and wells. Food specials. Never-ending SIN prices.

Entertainment: Pinball, pool, photo booth, patio
