Bar Guide 2015: The Foggy Notion

3416 N Lombard St., 240-0249, thefoggynotion.com. 5 pm-2:30 am Tuesday-Saturday, 5 pm-midnight Sunday.

With its record-cover-collage tables, skee ball and full roster of late-night shows, the Foggy Notion is perpetually hip and comfortable, not unlike the basement hangout of that punk kid in high school who always was—and, infuriatingly, still is—way cooler than you. It's dark and snug, albeit with a small patio and a stage (home to delightfully geeky themed Wednesday trivia nights run by former WW copy editor Margaret Seiler), but with one of the Notion's creative elaborate cocktails (such as the Bone Machine, with house-infused vanilla chai vodka, Kahlúa, cream, allspice and cola, $8) and a plate of housemade pierogis in front of you, it still manages to feel like the only place in the world you want to be.

Happy hour: 5-8 pm daily. $1 off specialty and wells, drafts and food entrees. There's also Tatt2for1 Tuesdays: two-for-one drink specials to anyone who flashes ink.

Entertainment: Live music, pinball, skee ball, DJs, karaoke, trivia, patio.
