4639 SE Woodstock Blvd., 774-0353. 11 am-2:30 pm daily.
It's hard to kill a good Portland dive. This
68-year-old Woodstock institution, which went through a 2010 ownership
transition that prompted obituaries in every paper in town, proves that.
Sure, there are less video-lottery players now, and no more smoke, but
there's still an even mix of blue-collar folks and college kids from
nearby Reed. Judas Priest's "Metal Gods" is still playing, the cocktails
are still strong enough to kill germs, and there's still a guy in a
Carhartt jacket walking around with a reusable Safeway bag slung over
his shoulder. It's pretty much perfect, and it'll still be perfect long
after the Californians buy up all the houses in Woodstock.
Happy hour: 4-6 pm and 11 pm-2 am daily. Food specials.
Entertainment: Jukebox, pool, patio.
