Bar Guide 2015: Teardrop Cocktail Lounge

1015 NW Everett St., 445-8109, teardroplounge.com. 4 pm-12:30 am Monday-Thursday, 4 pm-2 am Friday-Saturday.

Teardrop is like the tattoo that marks a kill: Portland's first true mixology bar has never been bettered. Sure, the graceful circle of the bar is like the wheel of death on an iMac, but it's the shapely drinks that have made it the room where seemingly 90 percent of Portland's tech venture-capital money is spent. From a genteel Cobra Kai punch bowl ($56 will ruin a bachelorette party) to a whiskey-amaro Prodigal Son ($12) that contains the bitterness of the son who didn't get the fattened calf, Teardrop is what drinks taste like when they taste good in Portland. It's also what they taste like when they're good anywhere else: Their "Friends" cocktail list collects favorites from across the nation, with charmingly complete footnoting that teaches you the names of bartenders in Philly—for example, Sara Justice, who designed their guest punch bowl of gin, gin, Chartreuse and pink peppercorns.

Happy hour: 4-7 pm Monday-Friday. Select food and drink specials.
