One Oregonian who will pay close attention to U.S. Rep. David Wu's fundraising figures this quarter is former state Rep. Greg Macpherson, a Democrat from Lake Oswego.
Though Macpherson lives in Oregon's 5th Congressional District, the redistricting of Oregon's congressional boundaries this year could move him into Oregon's 1st Congressional District, Wu's turf.
If that happens, Macpherson could be a potential challenger to Wu, whose re-electability remains in question following a dizzying string of revelations in recent weeks. That is, unless, Wu's fundraising figures from the first quarter of 2011 scare off any potential Democratic primary opponents.
"I haven't ruled anything out," Macpherson tells WW. "I look at opportunities where I think I could have an impact on the well-being of the state."
In 2008, Macpherson ran unsuccessfully for Oregon attorney general against John Kroger. He served in the Oregon House from 2003 to 2009 and currently works as a lawyer at Stoel Rives.
