The National Association of Realtors has written a $675,000 check to Protect Oregon Homes, the committee that wants to amend the Oregon Constitution to ban a real-estate transfer tax.
That's the biggest single political contribution Oregon has seen since the 2010 gubernatorial race, when both the Democratic and Republican Governors associations wrote checks of $750,000 and $1.5 million, respectively.
As of May 24, Protect Oregon Homes has turned in 163,278 signatures, which makes it likely the group will get 116,284 valid signatures needed to qualify for the November ballot—even though some people think the constitutional ban is a solution in search of a problem. The campaign now has $854,000 on hand.
