Sources tell WW that President Barack Obama will visit Portland on July 24.
The visit is expected to be a fundraiser for Obama's re-election campaign. Sources say it's still uncertain whether the event will include a public rally like the one that drew record crowds at the Gov. Tom McCall Waterfront Park in 2008.
Influential national gay-rights advocate and Portland real-estate broker Terry Bean is thought to be involved in arranging the president's visit. Bean, a major Democratic Party fundraiser, advised Obama before the president's announcement this spring that he now supports same-sex marriage.
Bean posted on his Facebook page last night a hint that Obama is on his way. "KEEP JULY 24TH OPEN," he wrote, "I PROMISE YOU WILL WANT TO."
He has since removed the post.
