Students and parents at Hosford Middle School and Richmond Elementary School, both in Southeast Portland, are coming back from winter break to new interim principals.
The changes are just the latest in a string of principal swaps in Portland Public Schools this school year, including particularly tumultuous turnover at Glencoe Elementary School, also in Southeast Portland.
Pam Joyner, the principal at Hosford, will fill in as interim principal at Richmond while Bev Pruitt, the school's full-time principal, is away on medical leave. Joyner replaces Sherie Knutsen who initially replaced Pruitt this fall.
John Hinds, a longtime PPS administrator, will replace Joyner at Hosford until the end of the school year. PPS hopes to have a permanent replacement for Joyner next fall, according to an announcement sent to parents.
At Glencoe, parents and students have suffered through five principal switches in a 15-month period.
Matt Giacomini, a Richmond parent, says community members are so far taking the changes in stride. "So far people are OK with this, as long as we don't become the next rotating-principals school," he says.
