Sylvia Kelley Named as Interim President at PCC

Sylvia Kelley, interim president of PCC

Portland Community College named Sylvia Kelley interim president Thursday morning.

Kelley had been serving as the college's acting president since May, when she took over after PCC's board fired former president Jeremy Brown.

WW first reported in April that Brown had applied for a job in Arkansas, and that PCC leaders were unhappy with him.

PCC's board held several executive sessions starting in March. Brown, who joined PCC in 2013, was fired in a 7-0 vote on May 18.

He received a $300,000 severance payment and $11,080 in reimbursement for legal fees. In exchange, he agreed not to sue PCC.

Kate Chester, a PCC spokeswoman, told WW that Kelley's appointment takes effect immediately, and she will serve as interim president until the board selects a permanent president next year. Kelley has agreed not to apply for the job.
