Bravo’s Real Housewives franchise is known for the glamorous lives of fabulously wealthy women and the frenemies they fight with across America. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills set the fashion bar for the wives’ on-screen universe, and now a designer that once called Portland home has helped one of the show’s central characters live up to her reputation for racy, daring style.
Colton Helfrecht’s label Colty Leather dressed singer and cast member Erika Jayne for an LGBTQ+ Pride party at The Viper Room featured on RHOBH’s newest episode, which aired Wednesday, Jan. 8, in which she played her new single, “Dominos.” Before Colty relocated to Los Angeles in July, Helfrecht’s handbags and fetish-informed harnesses were a regular highlight of Portland’s annual Fashion NXT runway show. (Helfrecht did not respond to WW’s interview requests.)
The event and Jayne’s outfit reveal led up to the climax of a two-part episode in a season that sees Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Tilly and Netflix’s former chief marketing officer, Bozoma Saint John, join Jayne and fellow castmates Kyle Richards, Dorit Kemsley, Garcelle Beauvais, Sutton Stracke and Kathy Hilton for wealthy woman high jinks. (Amanda de Cadenet also appears this season, though sadly not in this episode.)
Colty’s official Instagram page posted the outfit June 7, revealing the fine details of Jayne’s ensemble that even hi-def cameras couldn’t fully capture. The leather body suit took three people 96 hours to complete, using 1,500 metal grommets and more than 500 yards of paracord used to lace Jayne into the paneled suit, which also created an extra fringe effect. Colty’s designs last appeared on TV in 2023 worn by RuPaul’s Drag Race alumna Kerri Colby, and have been worn by Gigi Gorgeous Getty, The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula contestant Fantasia Royale Gaga, and Drag Race star Gia Gunn.
Colty’s Jan. 8 watch party in L.A. was canceled due to the ongoing Greater Los Angeles Fires. The largest two fires, the Palisades and Eaton fires, are respectively 8% and 3% contained as of Jan. 9, killing at least 10 people and razing tens of thousands of acres of property. Saint John as well as Hilton’s daughter Paris are just two of many people to lose their homes in the fires.
Jayne is one of RHOBH’s more recognizable and recently more controversial stars. Known as Erika Girardi offstage, Jayne’s estranged husband is disbarred lawyer Tom Girardi, who was convicted in August of four counts of wire fraud for stealing tens of millions of dollars from clients. Though Jayne still faces lawsuits stemming from the scandal, her entertainment career is on an upswing. Jayne will reprise her role as Roxy Hart in a Broadway production of Chicago starting Jan. 20, and has a song with Brooke Candy featured in the prestige romantic stripper drama Anora.
