LAUGH: Clown Alley

Clown Alley…so that’s where Tr*mp’s been finding his cabinet picks…OK, sorry, we’ll leave the comedy attempts to the professional, silly, good-natured, non-Tr*mp-affiliated clowns performing at The Six Below Midnight. Hosted by Gabby Poccia and Ryan Danley, Clown Alley is said to be Portland’s hottest new comedy showcase. Nestled beneath the The Midnight PDX on Belmont, tonight’s headliner series will feature sets by iconic Pacific Northwest comedians like Adam Pasi and Megan Otto, delicious craft cocktails, and a whole lotta laughs. The Midnight PDX, 3341 SE Belmont St., themidnightsocietypdx.net. 8–11:30 pm Wednesday, Jan. 29. $12-$15. 21+.

GO: Lunar New Year at Lan Su Chinese Garden

It’s officially the Year of the Snake…a time for life-changing transformation, personal growth, and rebirth. And where better to ring in the Lunar New Year than at the Lan Su Chinese Garden? Lan Su will host tons of Lunar New Year festivities now through Feb. 23—we’re talking lion dances, snake meet-and-greets, martial arts demonstrations, Chinese calligraphy, cultural performances and storytimes. You’ll get to experience Lan Su completely aglow with hanging red lanterns, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch an illuminated dragon dance procession winding its way through the garden. Lan Su Chinese Garden, 239 NW Everett St., 503-228-813, lansugarden.org. 10 am–4:30 pm Wednesday, Jan. 29–Sunday, Feb. 23. Free–$43.

WATCH: To Die For, with Nicole Kidman Look-alike Contest

Before she was Babygirl, she was Suzanne Stone—a wannabe world-famous news anchor who was willing to do anything she could to get what she wanted. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, we’re talking about Nicole Kidman in To Die For (1995), the satirical dark comedy film directed by Gus Van Sant, screening at Tomorrow Theater this Friday. And here’s the best part: If you or someone you love resembles (or could resemble, with the right wig) Nicole Kidman in that film—feel free to partake in the Nicole Kidman Look-alike Contest for a chance to win some fabulous prizes…although, if you look like Nicole Kidman, that’s really a prize in and of itself. Tomorrow Theater, 3530 SE Division St, 503-221-1156, tomorrowtheater.org. 7 pm Friday, Jan. 31. $15.

DRINK: Oregon Craft Beer Month

Farewell Dry January, and hello (for lack of a better word) wet February. Both in weather and alcohol consumption, February is an especially wet month here in Oregon. Especially because it coincides with Oregon Craft Beer Month: a monthlong focus on Oregon craft breweries, complete with special events, new beer releases, and more. But apparently, the timing isn’t just for the sake of Dry January participants: It’s actually held during February to help encourage folks to support Oregon craft breweries during one of the slowest months of the year. We’ll drink to that! Various locations across Portland, oregoncraftbeer.com. Saturday, Feb. 1–Friday, Feb. 28.

WATCH: Queer Horror: Hiding Henry

If you’ve yet to attend Queer Horror…literally what are you doing? Hosted by Portland’s premier drag clown Carla Rossi, Queer Horror (the only LGTBQ+ horror film screening series in the U.S.) screens bimonthly at the historic Hollywood Theatre…so there’s really no excuse to miss it. To kick off 2025, Queer Horror will be showing the Portland-made film Hiding Henry (2024)—an eerie, VHS movie about “the homes we keep hidden inside ourselves and those who keep themselves hidden inside our homes”—complete with a preshow starring the cast of the film. Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy Blvd., 503-493-1128, queer-horror.com. 8 pm Saturday, Feb. 1. $13–$15.

GO: Trail Blazers: Celebration of Black History

February is Black History Month: “a time to reflect, celebrate, and honor the legacies of barrier-breakers, changemakers, and culture shapers.” On Saturday, Feb. 1, join the Portland Trail Blazers at their annual Celebration of Black History. The Trail Blazers vs. Phoenix Suns Black History Night game will include special halftime performances, entertaining activations, and exclusive retail items from Deadstock coffee shop, and will support multiple fundraising efforts by organizations like the Urban League of Portland and the Albina Vision Trust. Moda Center, 1 N Center Court St., 503-235-8771, nba.com. 7 pm Saturday, Feb. 1. $15+.
