Used art supply store Scrap PDX is moving on up to the eastside.

The creative reuse center’s management announced in a statement Friday, Dec. 20, that Scrap—a nonprofit organization that resells secondhand classroom materials and art supplies——would leave its current location off of West Burnside Street, at Southwest Alder Street and 18th Avenue near Providence Park, after signing a lease in the Buckman neighborhood.

By next April, should all go according to plan, Scrap’s new headquarters will fall just off of Southeast Alder Street at 6th Avenue near the freshly opened Literary Arts.

“We are confident that this move will strengthen Scrap PDX’s presence in the community, opening new opportunities for growth, collaboration, and impact,” Katelyn Maynard, Scrap’s executive director, said in a statement scant on details. Maynard pledged more information in the coming weeks as it becomes available,\ but did not respond to follow-up emails.

Founded in 1998, Scrap was created by Portland teachers who wanted to rehome leftover classroom materials. The organization has since expanded to Virginia, Michigan and Maryland, and annually diverts short tons of supplies from landfills.
