January is the season of resolutions and fresh intentions for a lot of people, but Kimo Camat thinks further ahead.

The Portland actor-singer chose February, the midway point between the winter solstice and the vernal equinox, to end The Kiki Series of personally revelatory concerts. The trilogy concludes with Swan Songs and Awkward Hand Holding on Saturday, Feb. 1, at The Old Church in downtown Portland. Camat and his backing band will work through the pain and perform songs about healing and making new connections after starting over, flavored by funk, retro pop and musical theater influences.

“Change is upon us and we’re celebrating all the changes we’ve gone through this year and those that are yet to come,” Camat said in a statement about Swan Songs. “Celebrating all of the unexpressed love we have yet to give.”

Camat’s Kiki Series began last January with Lovesongs and Heartbreak, a revue centered on first loves and recovering from them, at the Alberta Rose Theatre. He returned there in May for Sexy Sweaty Summer Lovin, a more sensual show about embracing desire with self-respect. Performers from the Open Space contemporary dance company and B-Side Book Club A Capella will open Swan Songs.

“Some people cry about the change, some people lash out, some take a second to breathe before they take their next step,” Camat said. “When an ending comes, we are stuck at a crossroad—where do we go from here? At that moment, take the leap and trust that you are got! Starting anew can be scary but within the unknown are limitless possibilities.”

Camat recently wrapped a run as the boisterous voice of Audrey II in Triangle Productions’ take on Little Shop of Horrors. The Portland Queer Arts Foundation, which Camat performed for over the summer at the inaugural Portland Queer Arts Spectacular, sponsored The Kiki Series.
