- Oregon Secretary of State Dennis Richardson, who defied a blue wave to become the first Republican elected to statewide office in 14 years, died of brain cancer Tuesday night.
- Oregon will become the only U.S. state to enact statewide rent control, as a 7-percent caps on rent increases speeds to the governor’s desk.
- Senate President Peter Courtney addressed the Capitol’s harassment scandal—saying that as a result of new workplace training, he now says “hello” and “goodbye.” A Republican senator called for Courtney’s censure and removal from leadership, setting off a volley of recriminations in the Capitol.
- “It is dark. There is more snow on the say. Please send help,” an Amtrak passenger broadcast during her 36-hour nightmare on a snowbound Oregon train.
- Amtrak passengers weren’t the only Oregonians stuck while traveling today. Most of the players on the Portland Trail Blazers were trapped for 30 minutes yesterday in a Boston elevator.
- After vendors at the Portland Saturday Market spoke out against the closure of four downtown MAX stations, TriMet says it is considering keeping one open on weekends.
- A Portland veteran sued Southwest Airlines after a confrontation over his emotional support dog. “I came pretty close to losing my cookies,” he says.
