Meet some of "The Riches of Our City" at Willamette Week's Skidmore Prize Celebration and Give!Guide Kickoff
Tuesday, Nov. 8
5:30-8:30 pm
Davis Street Tavern
$18, Tickets available at the door.
Every year Willamette Week honors four Portlanders under the age of 36 who do fabulous work for local nonprofits by awarding them the Skidmore Prize. Each winner receives a check for $4,000 and a handsome plaque. Announcing the names of these fantastic folks also serves as the kickoff for WW's annual Give!Guide, which last year raised over $1.16 million for 79 local nonprofits. The Skidmore Prize gets its name from the inscription on the Old Town fountain of the same name: "Good Citizens Are the Riches of a City."
Since 2004, Willamette Week has awarded 29 prizes to incredible young people who are engaged in organizations addressing local issues, including animals, the arts, community, education, the environment, social action, wellness and youth.
This year the total awarded rises to 33, with Skidmore Prizes to Stephen Beaudoin (PHAME Academy), Ian Mouser (My Voice Music), Temmecha Turner (Friends of the Children), and Jenn Cohen (the Circus Project). A celebration will be held in their honor from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at Davis Street Tavern on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Tickets to the event are $18, including hosted appetizers by Davis Street Tavern, beer and wine. All proceeds to support the Skidmore Prize. Tickets will be available at the door — or, starting today, at Willamette Week's office and online at wweek.com/store. (Nominal online fees apply.)
The 2011 Skidmore Prize Celebration is generously supported by Integra Telecom and the Young Professionals of Portland.
