Jeff Stryker is a porn star of monumental proportions.
The he-man behind such cock-busters as Powertool and Stryker Force is so big that even straight people recognize him--a part of him, anyway. A life-size mold of his dick is one of the best-selling dildos ever, even spawning its own court case, in which Stryker fought the manufacturer for his "intellectual property."
So how do I share--without wetting myself--what it was like to interview the John Wayne of porn? Perhaps I should tell how Stryker describes the 11-inch penis hanging from his 5-foot, 9-inch frame: "It's the same circumference of a late-model Cadillac radiator-hose...it's a trunk." Or divulge that he was expelled from his Illinois high school because he stood up for a retarded kid. Or just spill the biggest beans of all--that he wants to trade in his cock ring for spurs and become a singer just like Dolly.
That's right: Jeff Stryker is a little bit country.
When I tracked him to Los Angeles, Stryker was putting the final touches on his first album. The four-song CD, Ridin' Hard! Jeff Stryker and His Soggy-Bottomed Boyz, includes such sure-fire hits as "Pop You in the Pooper" and "What a Man Has to Do."
This Midwest country boy admits one track on the advance promo disc is not his voice--refusing to be outed as a phony, Stryker directed me to his website for a snippet of the "real" version, which shows he has strong chops for a 30-pushing-40-year-old who hasn't sung in 20 years. "The last time I sang I was 12," Stryker says. "I was forced to sing in front of my grandfather's casket. That had such an impact on me I never wanted to sing again."
The way he tells it, his whole life is a country song.
"I had a troubled childhood," says Stryker, who grew up in an extremely Christian household. After stints in both military and public school, he dropped out and tried his hand at bathing-suit balloon-o-grams and stripping. It was during a modeling session, though, that his famous asset was "discovered." "An agent took some pictures of me in biking pants," he says. "In those days it didn't take much to get me aroused, and I guess it was more noticeable. They sent them to an adult video company in Los Angeles."
And the rest is homo history.
But can this highly paid gay icon really cross over into the homophobic world of country music? He's no George Strait--think Buck Owens and Pia Zadora with a bit of Elvis thrown in--but he has a well-built fanbase. His band, Jeff Stryker and Hott Rage, has been booked for a gay rodeo in L.A.
Still, it's unlikely Stryker's Opryland dream will thrust itself into his day job.
"I love Johnny Cash," he says, "but I don't want to fuck him."
