Mallori Weaver, daughter of convicted double-murderer Ward Weaver, was acquitted this week in Multnomah County Circuit Court on charges that arose from an alleged attack on a hospital security guard.
A six-person jury on Wednesday found Weaver, who is 21, not guilty of attempted assault, disorderly conduct, criminal trespassing and harassment. Without a prior criminal record, Weaver would have faced a likely sentence of probation, if convicted.
As previously reported by WW, Portland Police Officer Christopher Gilbert was called to Providence Medical Center shortly before 5:30 p.m. on July 21 in response to a report of a patientâs family attacking hospital security.
When Gilbert arrived, hospital personnel told him Maria Shaw, who is Mallori Weaverâs mother and Ward Weaverâs ex-wife, had been admitted the day before for mental-health issues.
Hospital staff told Gilbert that Mallori Weaver and Daniel Shaw, who is Mallori Weaverâs stepfather and Maria Shawâs husband, visited Maria Shaw in the emergency room and tried to remove her from the hospital by force.
They pushed past a nurse, who called security, according to Gilbertâs report. When security guards tried to escort the family into the ambulance bay, a struggle ensued, hospital staff told Gilbert.
A nurse and two security guards suffered minor injuries, according to Gilbertâs report. Mishael Handwerker, one of those two security guards, told Gilbert that Mallori Weaver had punched him in the face.
Mallori Weaver was just 12 when Weaver killed her two friends, Miranda Gaddis and Ashley Pond, in 2002. Pondâs body was found in a hole beneath a concrete slab in the familyâs backyard near Oregon City. Gaddisâ body was hidden in a bag in a nearby storage shed.
Weaver pleaded guilty in 2004 to both killings and was sentenced to two life sentences without parole. Weaver last made the news in 2007, when a barber in Snake River Correctional Institution attacked him with a knife
