Paul Evans, formerly the mayor of Monmouth and Gov. Ted Kulongoski's military advisor, is "very seriously considering" running for seat the House District 31 seat Rep. Brad Witt (D- Clatskanie) is vacating to run for Congress.
Evans told WW that he moved to Scappoose in June, when his service on the Monmouth School board ended. That relocation is related to his work for High Impact Technologies, which is negotiating with the Port of St. Helens to establish a boat-manufacturing facility.
Evans says he spent a lot of time in Witt's district while working for Kulongoski on issues related to the devastating 2007 Vernonia flood.
"A lot of people have encouraged me to look at Brad [Witt]'s, seat," Evan says. "I just didn't think he'd be announcing for Congress so soon." (Witt announced earlier this week he would challenge incumbent U.S. Rep. David Wu in the May 2012 Democratic Congressional primary).
Evans says he's been so busy with work that he has not fully decided to enter the House race but will announce his plans "soon."
House District 31 has been redrawn to include parts of Northwest Portland (including Forest Park) and Washington County, and all of Columbia County.
