Carl Wolfson got his Christmas gifts early.
It took less than a week for Wolfson to raise $40,000 he was seeking to start an Internet talk radio show.
The former morning host on progressive talk station KPOJ-AM 620 surpassed his Kickstarter fundraising goal last night, six days after launching the campaign. As of this morning, 681 people have donated $40,538 to a 90-minute streaming web broadcast, "Carl in the Morning."
Clear Channel Communications cancelled the liberal talk format on the station right after Election Day and switched that spot on the dial to Fox Sports Radio.
Wolfson plans to keep raising money through the Jan. 16 cut-off date. He's pledging that 20 cents of every $1 raised beyond his goal will be donated to families of victims in the shooting sprees at Clackamas Town Center and Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
His show is set to debut Jan. 21.
"I want to be back on the air," Wolfson tells WW. Every day that goes by, I want it more. I want to be talking about Nike, I want to be talking about gun control."
