They're giving out free weed every Monday at the Analog Cafe, on 720 SE 7th Ave.
Why? "Because we can," say owners.
The venue, restaurant and burlesque hall has been hosting Marijuana Mondays every week since legalization on July 1.
Fight Church Television—a late-night-style talk show at the Analog putting assorted "relevant" Portlanders on the mic—and burlesque show Gothique Blend host a free flower-and-edible cannabis giveaway at 9 and 11:30 pm, from a different local weed sponsor each week.
They also encourage patrons to trade weed amongst themselves, and at 11:30 pm, they hold a raffle for even more free cannabis—this July 27, the prize will be a half-ounce of 31.89 percent THC Monkey Balls from Medible Edibles.
âThe Analog fully supports legal marijuana use," writes Analog Cafe co-owner and Smoochknob vocalist Donny Rife. "We are pleased to encourage gifting and safe legal use.â
Fight Church Television host Jesse Sponberg is less reserved. "I feel like Oprah," writes Sponberg. "Here's some free legal weed for you! and some for you!"
This is funny territory, legally. Weed giveaways are legal, but currently cannabis can only be sold in Oregon by medical dispensaries, to people with OMMP cards. Meanwhile, the OLCC has been sending representatives to local bars warning them that they can't have pot smoking on-premises, because their liquor license makes them a public place.
The Analog Cafe's policy is for the night is simple: While they're giving out free weed, they don't allow it to be smoked at the bar. So you'll have to go around the corner with your little one-hitter, just like you probably would have done with the stuff you brought from home.
Still: Free weed, people. What a country. It'll almost be a shame when the recreational shops open up in October and you actually have to buy the stuff.
