Andy Wiederhorn's West Hills Mansion Goes on the Auction Block

Former Portland fianancier is now Beverly Hills burger king.

Andrew Wiederhorn

Former Portland financier Andy Wiederhorn cut a wide swath across this city two decades ago.

After making a fortune, getting mixed up in a union pension fund scandal and winding up in federal prison, Wiederhorn moved on to Beverly Hills, where today he's the CEO of the Fatburger fast-food chain.

One of Wiederhorn's legacies in Portland is a 17,750 square-foot mansion atop Portland's West Hills. Wiederhorn bought the home, formerly owned by Sequent Computer co-founder and CEO Casey Powell, for $1.5 million in 1995 and subsequently plowed another $10 million in the property.

After legal and financial troubles changed his circumstances, Wiederhorn and his wife, Tiffany, gave up the home in foreclosure to CitiMortgage.

It remains one of the city's most valuable residential properties, however. Multnomah County tax records show that it has an assessed value of $7 million, which means an annual property tax bill of $126,419.

The home, which includes 10 bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a basketball court, pool, and lots more, will be auctioned on Sept. 23, with opening bids starting at $250,000.
